"And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Acts 2:42-47
At Southwood Bible Church, we believe the responsibility of the individual believer in Christ is to learn, think, and apply the Word of God by faith and in the spirit of freedom from bondage that Jesus Christ has secured for us. Our vision for our church, for the Lord's church, is that we continue to become a church as modeled in Acts 2:42-47, where Scripture tells us to be a church of teaching, true fellowship, worship, and outreach; and where prayers, offered in faith, are answered by the greatness of God our Father. We welcome you to visit, to fellowship with us, and to learn more about our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
Location
Southwood Bible Church is located on the east side of Sheridan Road between 71st and 81st, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Pastor Eric Bush arrived at Southwood Bible Church in March 2011 from sunny Homestead, Florida. During his life, he has had the opportunity to study under a number of wonderful men of God. God especially used Chester McCalley to encourage Eric to leap into the study of the languages of the Word of God. Pastor Eric graduated with a doctorate in theology from Andersonville Baptist Seminary in February of 2001. He also attended Miami-Dade Community College, earning credits in engineering and law. During those years, he also attended Liberty Home Bible Institute and received a certificate in general Bible courses. Before relocating to Tulsa, Pastor Eric served as pastor of Truth Bible Fellowship Church in Homestead, Florida, for ten years and worked for the United States Postal Service for thirty-three years as a city letter carrier. He has been happily married to his wife, Elizabeth Bush for thirty-eight years. Together they have three beautiful girls, three son-in-laws, and four grandsons. Pastor Eric's vision for Southwood Bible Church is to continue to teach through the Bible verse by verse. His technique is a little unusual. To grasp the understanding of a particular biblical passage, Pastor Eric not only integrates the culture, geography, and language of the context but also adds a hint of his Jewish humor since he grew up in a Jewish household, learning the Hebrew Scriptures at a young age. With his unique background, Pastor Eric makes the Bible come alive, yet remain as it is--the very truth from God.

Our Beliefs

The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Holy Scripture to be the inspired Word of God, authoritative, inerrant, and God breathed. 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Matthew 5:18;John 16:12-13
The Godhead
We believe in one Triune God, existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, eternal in being, identical in nature, equal in power and glory and having the same attributes and perfections. Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14
The Depravity of Man
We believe that man was created in the image and human likeness of God, but that in Adam's sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and is alienated from God. Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23; Ephesians 2:12
The Person and Work of Jesus Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man; that He accomplished the redemption through His death on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice, that our redemption is made sure to us by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead (John 1:1-2,14; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:24-26; Romans 4:25; ;1 Peter 1:3-5); that the Lord Jesus Christ is now in heaven, exalted at the right hand of God. As the High Priest for His people, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor and Advocate. Hebrews 9:24; Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:34; 1 John 2:1-2
The Personality and Work of the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Person of the Trinity who convicts the world of sin, indwells all believers in the present age, baptizes (identifying or placing) them into the body of Christ, seals them unto the day of redemption, and that it is the duty of every believer to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14;Ephesians 1:13-14; Ephesians 5:18). We further believe that the Holy Spirit in grace, apart from any human merit, sovereignly bestows spiritual gifts on each believer for ministry within the body of Christ.
Salvation
We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins. John 1:12; Romans 6:23; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:36
The Blessed Hope
We believe in the coming of the Lord Jesus in the air to receive to Himself the dead in Christ and the believers who are alive at His coming, otherwise known as the Rapture and Translation of the Church which occurs prior to the Tribulation.
The Church
We believe that the Church, which is now the body and shall be the bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons of this age, irrespective of their affiliation with Christian organizations. Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 5:25-27; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14
Eternal Security of the Believer
We believe that all believers are kept secure forever. Romans 8:1; Romans 38-39; John 10:27-30; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 John 5:13
Satan
We believe that Satan exists, and is the open and declared enemy of God and man. Job 1:6-7; Matthew 4:2-11; Isaiah 14:12-17
The Tribulation
We believe that the Tribulation is the fulfillment of God's dealings with Israel. It is Daniel's seventieth week, the latter half of which is the time of Jacob's trouble, the great tribulation. Daniel 9:27; Jeremiah 30:7; Matthew 24:15-21; Revelation 6:1-19:27; Zechariah 14:4-11; Matthew 24:15-25; Matthew 24:46; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10; Revelation 20:6
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ
We believe that the great tribulation will be climaxed by the pre-millennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth to set up His kingdom.
The Eternal State
We believe that the soul and spirit of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation do at death immediately pass into His presence and there remain in conscious bliss until the resurrection of the body at His coming when soul, spirit and body will be reunited and associated with Him forever in glory; but the souls of unbelievers remain after death in conscious misery until the final judgment of the great white throne at the close of the millennium, when soul and body reunited shall be cast into the lake of fire not to be annihilated but to be punished with everlasting separation from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.
The Lord's Supper
We believe that it is the duty of every believer and an act of obedience to observe the ordinance of the Lord's Supper. The Lord's Supper declares one's continuing dependence upon the Christ proclaimed in the gospel, who died, was buried, and rose for our salvation. 1 Corinthians 11:23-24
Water Baptism
We believe that water baptism by immersion is designed to be a symbolic testimony of the identification of the Believer with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection to new life. This baptism in no way affects the salvation, the spirituality, or spiritual growth of the Believer. Mark 1:5; Matthew 3:16; Acts 8:36-39
The Responsibility of the Believer
Jesus taught that the greatest commandment is to love God and to love one another. This is only possible through the believer's trust in the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5 ). The Holy Spirit produces in the Christian this love which results in a supernatural desire to walk in such a manner as to glorify their Lord and Savior; to witness to the unbeliever; a desire to know Him through the study of the Scripture; to serve Him and His Church; and to worship and honor Him. Romans 12:1-2; Matthew 28:19; Galatians 5:22-25
